American Kestrel Photos

These are our first-ever American Kestrel photos. The American Kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America, not much larger than a robin. They are found just about everywhere in the United States. They are probably one of the most colorful birds of prey in the United States. These photos are of a male American Kestrel, which has slate-blue wings, whereas females are reddish-brown.

Red-shouldered Hawk photo

This Red-shouldered hawk photo was taken at the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge located near the Philadelphia International airport. We often see many different birds of prey at this refuge. The Red-shouldered Hawk has great colors, especially when its wings are fully extended.
